K5 Tips for Parents

We have compiled the below information in order to assist our preschool parents in navigating the process of selecting and registering their child for kindergarten.  There are many kindergarten options in our area.  Please let your child’s teacher know if you need more assistance in understanding this process.

Register early, learn when registration begins for the schools you are interested in by checking for details in December before registration typically begins in January.  Certain base schools may have specific times and/or require an appointment.  Wake County provides many different options, such as Year Round and Magnet Schools.

Visit each Charter School’s website to learn the various application deadlines, most of which are in January.  Many of the Charter Schools admit students by lottery, therefore admission is not guaranteed.  Often parents will apply to more than one Charter School to increase their child’s chances of being accepted.  Siblings of current students typically have priority for enrollment before the general public is considered for admissions.
